No, I'm not pregnant...

Why is it that when you say you're feeling nauseous everyone automatically says "Oh you must be pregnant!" with the most ecstatic look on his/her face? Seriously, if I were nauseous because I were pregnant, ecstatic would be the last emotion I'd be feeling!

So anyway, I've been nauseous and dizzy since about Monday. Each day it seemed to get progressively worse. Thursday I decided to get to the doctor and as I suspected, I had an ear infection NOT a pregnancy. So while I'm thrilled to know what is causing the dizziness, I am really sick of it. Will I get back to normal???

On another note, the Silver/Gold Dolphin Auction last Saturday was a huge success! Justin bid on a few things in the silent auction, which he won (none of the items on which I bid came home with us). He is especially proud of the deals he got. The first item was a $40 gift certificate to a local restaurant, which he got for $30. The second deal was much more fabulous. For $90 he scored an awesome movie night basket filled with movie candy, popcorn, a board game, a $50 gift certificate to the movie theater, and an $100 gift certificate to Olive Garden! It ended up being such a steal and I'm glad my savvy husband was able to grab that deal for us.

My donated items managed to make a pretty penny for the auction. I am very proud to say that the final bid for the cooking set sold for $115! Wow! I am so happy that I was able to donate something that was so successful to the scholarship fund. Now if only I had more time to make more of the felt food, so I can put some money in my crafting fund...

Into the Wild

Sunday the girlies, Justin, and I spent the day at the Jacksonville Zoo. It was a great day! I hate to admit it, but I've never taken Claire to this zoo before. When we lived here the first time, I took Elise several times, but was never really impressed. I am happy to say that since the last time I have gone there were some improvements done and it is a nice little zoo now.
The girlies posing for a picture. Claire thought these metal elephants were a lot of fun.
I think part of my hesitation for not going earlier was the cost. While it's not a bad deal if you go often and get a membership, going once is pricey. (Although I enjoyed it, I'm not sure that I'd want to go back again before we move.) Growing up in the DC area has completely spoiled me as far as zoos and museums go. Everything there is fabulous and FREE. I always loved going to the National Zoo and enjoying the pandas, elephants, and giraffes for the price of a metro ticket. That is one of the things I miss most about not living in that area anymore...
A rare photo of Claire Bear looking at the camera and smiling. It must have been my lucky day!

Hanging out with my Peeps...

Aren't these bunny softies adorable? They are so quick and easy to make too. I was planning on saving two for the girls for Easter, but they've already claimed two of them. I've been busy though and have about 8 of these hanging out with me in my craft room. Now I just need to get around to taking decent photos so I can list them on Etsy!

I've made 4 outfits like the one above (bad picture, I know...) in the last month. Funny thing is they have all been in a size 7! How odd is that? When I get a free minute I need to make Claire another outfit like that in her current size. The last time she wore her red and white polka dot skirt, it was a little lot short.

Now I'm off to finish a couple more small orders that I've been putting off, but really need to finish. Then I get to finish an order for embroidery on 9 tees. At least it's not the 1o onesie order I had to do 1.5 weeks ago. No one should agree to do that many onesies in one day.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Since we moved into this house about 2.5 years ago, I have switched craft rooms and rearranged it approximately 432 times. According to Justin that is approximately 431 times too many.
This afternoon I finally decided to take some pictures. It's never going to be show house clean. This is about as good as it gets. Enjoy!
Above is the view when you walk into the room (sort of). when you enter, there's a wall immediately in front of the door, but if you look off to the right this is what you see. Those drawers below the table (more on that part later) are filled mostly with onesies, burp cloths, kitchen towels, and a gazillion tote bags all waiting to be embroidered. The basket on the table holds a lot of odds and ends like lint rollers, cutters, stitch ripper, and other random stuff.
This is another view of the room and my cutting table. On the floor on the right, you can see my serger, "The Beast." It's home will actually be on my main desk once Justin finishes painting the sewing table and move my large embroidery machine there. On the back side of my cutting table, I have embroidery machine #1. She is sadly lacking a name.

The coolest thing about this table, which is brand new to me, is it was FREE! The tile top is a little beat up and the previous owner was giving it away. Although it was larger than I originally thought, it actually worked out better than expected. It is PERFECT in my craft room!To the side of the table I added some command adhesive hooks to hang my most often used hoops on. I keep the 5x12 and 6x10 ones in a drawer as well as the extra 5x7 hoops.
This is my "main" desk area. Right now, it is currently home to my sewing machine, Jane, and my second embroidery machine, fondly named Christy. The Christy will go on the sewing table when it comes in the room and the Beast will end up on here, so I'll actually have a little work space on the desk.

I love the magnet board above the desk. I bought it from IKEA many years ago and wish I had another one. The cassette holder is home to ink pads and Cricut cartridges.
Between the desk and the cutting table you get to see the ugly...real ugly of my craft room. My rolling paper file thing is stuffed underneath the card table. The green Market Tote there is currently a small scrap bin. Some of my threads are on the wall, but most of them are actually in thread boxes. On my printer are some more threads, my postal scale, super cool clock from Pottery Barn, and my scrabble tile name plate.
Here's some more ugly...On the underside of the table I have two large bins filled with blank tees. The two pretty baskets under there are filled with more scraps. There are cords hanging everywhere on this side. I need to figure out a way to eliminate some of those.
Here's an up close view of Jane...I had to trick her out by adding some bling to her. I suppose I should have added "Jane," but I had my name, so there it is!
My closet is perhaps heaven to me. The closet is pretty much stuffed with fabrics. It actually extends on each side about 2 feet beyond the door opening and there's a lot of fabric and other crafty stuff back there too.

I hung a small tension/curtain rod in the doorway to possibly add a curtain, but I doubt I'll actually do it. I think that might just invite disaster in the closet if I can close it off so no one can see it. It is actually quite well organized despite being so full.

The two piles of fabrics on the floor are what won't fit into the closet, so I have to get some serious sewing done so I can bust through my fabric stash. Perhaps I'll make something for a giveaway. Any suggestions?Last, but not least is my huge IKEA bookcase. We bought this years ago in Maryland for our 1968 house to use as kitchen storage in our laundry room. I didn't think we'd use it after we moved from there. I have to say, I LOVE this piece of furniture! The shelves are deep enough to store my scrapbook albums and my scrapbook papers.

The purple boxes and FedEx boxes are used to store ribbon. Yes, I have a lot of ribbon. Sadly there is a lot more that won't fit in those boxes.

The little drawer units on the 4th shelf up house a lot of little things that I use like purse hardware, elastics, Velcro, zippers (over 100 of them...yikes!), key fob hardware, and other random sewing necessities.

The little printer stand to the right of the bookcase holds most of my stabilizers. On the top of it is my Sizzix and laminator.

What you don't see in any of the pics is the futon and another small bookcase. The futon is boring and the bookcase is a mess and I will not be shamed enough to share it today!

Cupcake Cuteness

This year for the Silver/Gold Dolphin Scholarship Auction I decided to create and donate a little girl kitchen set for the silent auction. I didn't get very many photos of the donation before I turned it in, but you can get the gist of it. I was also going to make a chef hat, but ran out of time. I'm still going to make one for Claire and I'll post it when I get a chance. Here's Claire modeling her apron and oven mitts. (If you know Claire, you know this is about the best picture I could get of her. She doesn't like the paparazzi.) I couldn't make one for someone else without making them for her too! Of course, she insisted that you must have two oven mitts. One just won't do it!

The apron that Claire is modeling has two ties, so it can be worn with a bow on the back. The one for the auction looks the same front the front, but I used 2 D rings so it would be more easily adjustable if the child is larger.

Up close of the oven mitts - They're quilted and have a cute turquoise stitched trim on the front side!
What good are the apron and oven mitts without some food to serve? Out of Eco-fi felt, I created some delicious creations. There are 4 donuts, one fried egg, 2 slices of bacon, 2 pancakes with syrup and butter, and 3 slices of pizza. I embroidered a waffle weave towel to go along with it too. I found those cute, white mini plates at Target for $.99 each and the tray came from the $2.50 section of the dollar spot at Target as well. I also have some pizza toppings and cookies that vanished. Miss Claire won't give them up, so I'll have to replace them with new ones. I do realize that I didn't make any cupcakes to go with the cupcake accessories, but I didn't have time to figure those out.

I had a lot of fun creating all of the yummy goodness, so I hope whoever the recipient is will enjoy it. I know Claire is so happy with all that I've made for her.

Insomnia

Seriously...just when I thought I was done with sleep problems here I go again. I. Can't. Sleep. No matter how tired I am, as soon as my head hits the pillow I am wide awake again. This sucks. It looks like I might have to start the Ambien again, which I really didn't want to do.
***
On another note, I've been super productive lately despite my lack of sleep. Last week I was crazy busy with orders, which was a good thing, but it was hectic. For future reference though, I will NOT be embroidering 10 onesies for an order in 1 day. That was no fun at all!
***
Elise has recently become more interested in sewing and creating things. As long as I can remember, she's always like the idea of liking whatever I like (make sense?). When I scrapbooked regularly, she did too. When I created handmade cards, she did too. So a couple of months ago when she asked me if she could have my old sewing machine, I was not surprised.

For weeks it sat on her desk collecting dust, while E enjoyed the idea of sewing. Last week she finally dusted it off and asked me to help her make some boxers. I wasn't able to do it that night, so she attempted it on her own (no pattern either mind you!). I have to say it was almost a good job. She didn't quite pay attention to me when I told her how to shape the pattern. Still I am proud that she tried. Yesterday I showed her how to draft a pattern using a pair of pants she has. I think the second pair will turn out much nicer! I'll have to post pics when I find my camera again.
