Pink Bunny

On one of my thrifting adventures, I purchased a pink glass bunny candy dish almost identical to the one above. It's a little weird, but the pink (mine is a brighter pink) was so pretty and I had to have it for Easter.

Now that I have it, what do I do with it? The obvious answer is to put candy in it, but I was hoping that I could do something a little more fun. I guess it would help if I had at least one more Easter decoration in my house.

Any ideas for inexpensive spring/Easter decor that would incorporate the pink bunny?

Moving Anxiety

In about 6 months, we'll be moving from here. Where are we moving? Good question. If I had the answer I wouldn't have the moving anxiety that I have right now.

Justin is looking at orders and we've got a lot of lovely places on our dream sheet. We really, really, really want to get off of the East Coast and try something different. Honestly any place on our dream sheet will probably make me happy. I love moving (well not the actual move) and the adventure that a new city brings.

What I cannot stand is not knowing where that adventure will be. I like to have a plan and not knowing where I will live in 6 months is not easy right now. I can't sleep and all I do in my free time is think about where we're going to be and praying that we get to go where we really want to go. I know I'm stressing myself out about it, but I just can't help it.

The hardest part is that I have absolutely no control over it. I have put my faith in Justin hoping that he will make sure to get the job he wants in the place we want. That is hard. I don't like giving up control.

You'd think I'd be used to this by now. After 13 years as a Navy wife, not knowing should come naturally. I guess some things will never change about me.

Thrifting...(cont'd)

While it was fun going back to the ReStore, I didn't end up leaving with anything. There were several nice pieces of furniture, including a vintage (1956) Ethan Allen hutch, but nothing was too appealing. I did put in a low-ball bid on a couch, but I didn't really care if I got it or not. I was disappointed that I didn't win the bid on these lovely decorative bird cages. I'm not quite sure what I would do with them had I won the bid, but they were fun.

I still haven't been able to work on my two furniture projects. The weather has either been too wet or too cold and I don't do well with either. Not only that, but I think it will be too difficult to conquer during the week when I'm the only one home with Claire. I can see her either getting in my way or running down the street like a crazy person trying to get away from me. Hopefully the weather will be better this weekend!

Thrifting & HGTV

There's a book problem in my house. We have entirely too many books (if there is such a thing!). Before we moved here 2.5 years ago our main bookcases were overflowing and now it's even worse. Justin and I started storing a lot of the extra books in laundry baskets and in piles on my nightstand. Nice. We need help.

We have two really nice bookcases already and we'd love to get another one to match, but I fear that I won't have room for it in our new house when we move later this year. I really didn't want to buy a cheap0 one, so over the last several weeks I've been scouring the local thrift shops (not that there's many) and resale shops looking for a bookcase.

I wasn't sure what I wanted, but I knew I'd know it when I saw it. Make sense? I didn't want something plain and boring. I wanted something that had good bones that I could make pretty and place in my master bedroom.

On the first day of thrifting, I came home with something! It wasn't a bookcase or anything that can be suitable for books even, but it will find a home in my craft room. I found a lovely old sewing table. I have a space that it will fit perfectly in now and when we move (and most likely have to downsize my craft space) hopefully it will come in handy. Now all I need to do is get out in the garage to sand and paint it so I can use it.

Finally I found a cabinet for my books. I think it's actually a buffet cabinet, but I think it'll be perfect. The bottom has removable glass doors, so I'm taking them off. The cabinet is painted an olive green. Honestly I don't necessarily have a problem with the color, but it will need to be sanded down. The paint is in bad shape and there's a little mold on it from some potted plants that were sitting on it. But the cabinet has good bones. I can't wait to get it finished!

When I dropped E off at Scouts this afternoon, I drove past the Habitat Restore and decided to stop in (last week I got an almost brand new Scrabble game for $.25-now E has tiles for the necklaces she makes!) and check it out. Apparently they are having a big sale tomorrow and I MUST go to it. A lot of what is in there is junk, but tomorrow they are opening a room with "the good stuff."

In 2004, the HGTV Dream Home was here in podunk historic Saint Marys. Because the winners couldn't afford to keep it, it sat vacant for a long time before a buyer came along. The current owners bought the property and have donated a few things here and there to the Restore, but this time they've gone through and have a huge donation for the store - most of which is in pristine condition. Saying I'm looking forward to checking it out tomorrow is putting it mildly!

Of course the room was curtained and sealed off today and I couldn't even convince the super nice manager of the store to let me have a peak. She did tell me there was a lot of artwork, coffee tables, end tables, media room recliners, and accessories in there. The other guy that works there said there were a few couches and nice furniture. There's got to be something there that I need.
With any luck, I will be blogging in the next day or so and telling you about any awesome deals I get. Even if I don't get any deals, I'm sure it will be fun to look!

Recent Projects

Here are some a few of the projects I've done over the last couple of weeks-some for gifts and some for sale. I wish I would remember to take pictures of everything. I made 4 different purses in December and I didn't get a photo of even one of them! Oh well...
This chicken dress is by far one of the favorite things I've made for Claire. I know a lot of people think the chickens are weird, but I LOVE the fabric. She's been asking me for the last week to let her wear it, but it's been too cold until today. Maybe I'll be able to take her outside and take some proper pictures this weekend!
This was the first time I created anything from that particular pattern, but I love it. The waist, sleeves, and neckline are all shirred and the fit is perfect. I used the Portabellopixie "Claire" (of course) pattern for it and the fabrics are both from Robert Kaufman (metro market and mini gie).
This (unfortunately) was the best photo I could get of Claire at Disney World wearing her Minnie Mouse pillow case dress. The dress turned out really cute and the applique on the dress has her name embroidered on it too. Despite the pain in the butt she was being for the picture, she actually did have a good time and loved her pretty dress.

I love this little Valentine turtle applique. I made this one in pink and I made one on a white rib fit tee for Claire.

This postage stamp design is on a onesie I was commissioned to make for a friend who just had a baby. I wish I could get a better photo of this design. It always looks so crappy, but the design is really cute.
Big Sister and Little Sister tees. I've made three sets of these for big/little sisters, but none for boys yet. I guess I should make up a sample or something.

A friend was making a blanket for a baby shower and asked me to make a plushy owl and matching applique for the blanket. I think it turned out cute!
I love this little Minnie Mouse outfit. This one was a custom order from someone, but Claire has one almost like it except she has a red polka dot skirt with a yellow ric rac trim.
I made two outfits like this one in the last month. The mocca fabric is one of my favorites and I have been making a lot with it lately. I bought an entire bolt of it, so I still have plenty left too.
The onesie and bib were a part of the baby shower gift that I made for Sheila's baby shower. I know baby Scarlett will look adorable in them when she arrives sometime next month!

Bad, Bad Blogger

I can't believe how long it's been since I've really blogged. Right now it's hard to imagine that there was a time that I looked forward to sitting down at my computer and sharing my thoughts. I want to try to enjoy it again. On the positive side, no one had to read about how stressed, busy, or crazy I've been. ;)

So what have I been up to besides working...Well Justin came home from sea in November just before Christmas. That gave us just enough time to make it up to West Virginia (to his sister's house) for Thanksgiving. The next day we traveled to Kent Island, MD where we attended his brother's wedding. The next day we headed to DC where we spent the evening with my brother and then we headed back to GA the next day. It was a short trip and we didn't get to see nearly as many people as we would have liked, but still it was good to go and see our family.

In December, we made another trip to Disney. This time my parents joined us. We had a lot of fun sharing that little vacation with them. Not only that, but Justin and I left the kids with them on our 13th anniversary so we could go on a nice date. We went to Fulton's Crab House at Downtown Disney, which was fabulous! I had these delicious Alaskan king crab claws that were so succulent and juicy. But I digress...

We spent a quiet Christmas here at home with just the four of us. Then we headed to Destin to visit with the parents for New Years.

Those are the highlights basically. Nothing too exciting happening here. You haven't missed much.
